The registered agent receives covered notices at the registered office, processes them, and makes digital copies available so the business can review and act on them. The business remains responsible for responding to legal notices, filing deadlines, or government requests contained in those documents.

A registered agent is not the same as a general mail-receiving service or virtual business address. The agent's core role is to be available at the required physical address to receive service of process and specified official communications. If a business is registered in multiple states, it generally needs a qualifying registered agent in each state where registration requires one.
